For those who haven't seen it, here is a funny and informative video by Ben Lounsbury

lets make lounsbury famous
I'm going to call around tomorrow (or email, possibly) and see if our local counties' public health officers have seen this video, and see what kind of support I can get for trying to get the local TV stations to run it as a human interest item (assuming Lounsbury is willing to allow it to be televised).  It's a bit long for TV but there's an outside chance they might run it if the health officers endorse it.

I hope others will look into doing this in their areas as well.  If even one news venue picks it up, it may catch on and get wider viewing--we've all seen how errors propagate through the major news wires--so should good information.

The video has the advantage of being pertinent to seasonal flu and colds as well, so it won't have the 'tinfoil' factor of being a bird flu prep item. :)

This is an excellent video
Please, please give it every effort to have this video seen anywhere and everywhere ... can we get airlines to play it as part of their in-flight entertainment?

it's on Google

82,000 but...
A single TV broadcast would dwarf the current views. :)  I'll at least find out if they've seen it, if I can.

I didn't say not to ;-)

but... you want it locally

this is from Pew Center.

And if I post it at Daily Kos, it'll be seen by half a million people.  ;-P

ROTFLMAO!!!!! and,
How easyily and QUICKLY we can watch a video! Good idea to get it up on the main page- this will convince lots of people to try harder to get the new Fluwiki. Thank you!!

A computer illiterate who's trying!!!

scroll down and watch the humor video
;-)

we moved here for this capability.

translate?
Could the soundtrack be translated into several languages?  Ah, wait - it is being translated.

But it should be out there for no money, if you ask me.  The cooperative translation should be very easy - how many words are spoken or written?  I don't think it's more than a few pages of written text.

We're translating a 17 page manual.  So we can help with the "cooperative" part.

Great video!

You arm yourself to the teeth just in case.  You don't leave the gun near the baby's hand.

Egad
I contacted Ben some time ago in order to get rights to show the vid on our intranet. We got that figured out and then the obvious occured to me: it isn't in French (I live in Canada with two official languages). I dropped the idea and then came across your post. I was elated and then crushed to discover that it was only translated into spanish. Sigh.

trouble seeing videos
There are many formats and some seem to be incompatible; on certain computers there's no way I can see it.  Also, is there a way to download the video so that it may be copied on CD etc?

we can place the link
to the original site where they come from. but youtube and google are...

observation
The guitar player at the end, went to wash his hands (good); but he contaminated his guitar when he took it off (bad) and will recontaminate his hands when he puts it back on (making his handwashing next to useless).

To calm the wife buy cases of chocolate, to calm the husband buy cases of booze, and to calm the children...... heck the booze and chocolate should work.

Great for kids
I saw this video then watched it again with my 12- year old daughter.  She liked it.  Using humor is definatly the way to go!

I sent the link to our local news channel
In hopes they will air it, or at least get the knowledge out there.

I really hope they air it, it's too funny!

Hilarious!
Great way to make a point and entertain at the same time.

I finally took the time to watch this and I'm glad I did. I can also say that the coughing or sneezing in my sleeve is something I've done for years. As a year-round allergy sufferer, with multiple other respiratory problems, I found it hard to prepare a meal quickly because I had to keep stopping to wash my hands every time I coughed or sneezed. I finally started sneezing into my sleeve, as it was the only solution I could think of---didn't want to just "spray" the kitchen, but was trying to avoid using my hands and then having to wash before continuing to stir the soup, or whatever, if it was just a quick sneeze.

kung-fu-choo
I would encourage schools, tribal offices, VFW, etc to get copies. I think the primary school pupils will especially enjoy the kung-fu-choo! moves (see also

The DVD is available for bulk rate but I think it is still a small, local effort, i.e., may not be able to give away the DVDs and postage, etc.

I have just sent this to my
Ministry of Health, via their pandemic influenza website, suggesting they incorporate it in a public health campaign.

Let's see what the response is ...

Hey, I got a reply to this email - good stuff
Here is the response I got:

Dear Anne,

Thank you for your email bringing to our attention the American made video on coughing and sneezing etiquette. We appreciate you bringing this video to our notice.

I have passed the link on to the appropriate people within the Ministry of Health for their review and consideration.

Kind regards,
