HHS to Provide $430 Million in Grants to Improve Medical Preparedness and Response to Mass Casualty

This press release http://tinyurl.com/3... states that Admiral Vanderwagen, (Stormin Norman during Katrina) will now be in charge of distributing $$$ for battle preparation vs Pandemic Influenza.  The AS/ASPR, (formally OPHEP), may be in a better position to oversee money spent in the right places.  This guy, by his record, is a Combat Commander, who may function well behind the desk, but may get lost in the never ending bureaucracy of HHS.

All of the earmarked items for funding are about training leadership and command, surveillance and monitoring, prevention and mitigation.

There are still Absolutely NO Flu Soldier training programs for this disease.  Most of you know I spend my time working on items such as admission assessment and evaluation, treatment and triage, scope of service tiering, (who gets what and in what order).  I am just a staff grunt with what I think are some decent ideas, and I certainly wish I knew for a fact that someone much smarter than me were working in a think tank some where coming up with a plan for what we gonna do when the walk ins, crawl ins and fall ins start showin up.

Project Extreme is the ONLY evidence (sort of a defeatist approach) where I have seen any HHS money spent.  The 4.3 hours of training I received last year on the antiquated SNS Ventilators has been the only training I have received, with an exception of the ICS Series online course.  I work for these people, (maybe not much longer if they read this) and their doing zip.  Haven't heard from them in a year.

Improve Medical Preparedness? and response to mass casualty?
- if none of it means

they'll tell the public their only chance is to prep Now and have community contingency meetings now; Before panflu year starts... how will America benefit?

Is any of this going to address palliative care/buying meds, local Mortuary Reserve Corps?

Admiral Vanderwagen's orders wouldn't permit him to get online on Flu Wiki, would it? I thought not...

Massachusetts - who knows what they'll do with their money
more pushy "advance registration" of unprepped, misled volunteers is not what we need.

Neither are respirators with no electrical grid worker preparedness at home, nor no road/community security, no hospital staff PPE nor hospital supplies, and no home preparedness, and a whole blindsided population; nope.

Each community going to have a Pandemic Preparedness Coordinating Committee, telling the public everything we know is out there? Fostering preparedness?

We have the people - just give us the tools.
I hear CRFullMoon.
To say we have the people - we only need the tools helps make the case for supplies.
Yes the power grid may fail - I believe generators will appear for ventilators. Not magicaly appear but when people say - my family member is on a ventilator and the local hospital needs a generator to save several people - I think the genny's will appear.

Right now it seems that nothing will be done becuase there is so much to do.

If we get some of the parts done then it is a case of "there is so much to waste by not doing this last 30%"

The programs for tracking hospital beds and supplies should already be there in LINUX.

Generators
may well last much longer than the availability of fuel to power them.  People have a selfish streak, too - if it were my child needing a vent that needed a generator, sure I'd take mine to wherever I had to take it (if I had one) - but if it's the lady who lives across town that I hear needs a vent but doesn't have a generator, I'm afraid human nature will dictate that my generator stays exactly where it might be, because I wouldn't be able to risk using it for someone else when my family might need it next week.

Might not say much good about human nature, but I'm afraid that's the way I think it will work.

Good point - out of sight out of minid
Clawdia,

The person at the hospital may just well get one - the lady at home may not.

Plus people with fuel may donate to a hospital but not the lady.

I see your point and agree. Since many have not been told about BF I doubt many are looking into storing generator or fuel.

Note: the local fire marshal does not like me storing more that two gallons of gas - even though the two cars hold 15 and 18 gallons respectfully. he will let me store 50, 80 or more gallons of nwe/used vegtable oil which can be used for running a diesel generator.

Probably a moot point....
"HHS to Provide $430 Million in Grants to Improve Medical Preparedness and Response to Mass Casualty"

I wonder if TPTB have actually considered the term "mass casualties" and what are they planning for? Perhaps it would be a bit more real if they were to designate and actually excavate mass burial sites across the country. Simply contract some heavy equipment and labor, excavate the 50x200 foot holes (dozens will do per site) required and post warning signs stating that this is a future mass burial site. It would save quite a bit of time, money and planning when the 'balloon goes up'.

I'll Suggest A Good Move.
Go to http://tinyurl.com/b... and copy the entire Ontario Pandemic Plan, save it and print it and actually READ it and maybe learn from it.  There are answers in it that I cannot find here in the USA, anywhere.  What is wrong with us???
