Rumors April 2008 thru ...

by: pablo escobar

Sun Apr 06, 2008 at 10:42:00 AM EDT

I looked for another general rumor thread, and the last one I could find was from Mar of last year...

Must be the slow season.

pablo escobar :: Rumors April 2008 thru ...
Sorry I haven't been around for a while.  Business has been keeping me quite occupied. ;)

Not a rumor, but an interesting conversation to prove just how small the world really is....

Anyway, Thursday nite I was sitting at the airport bar in Las Vegas waiting for my red eye to Detroit, when I struck up a conversation with a young woman seated beside me.

We talked about the economy, politics, and the financial meltdown crisis, (she works for a major bank in their investment department), and then as an end of the discussion throwaway, I told her that if it isn't a depression/ financial collapse that will get us, it will be bird flu.

Well, did I hit a hot button!  Turns out her father is THE high muckety muck at Kroger that spearheaded, drove and completed the Kroger bird flu plan that was so talked about in the blogosphere a few years ago. Remember the discussions of how it seemed that at least someone "got it?".  Well, because of his position, someone who got it was able to make things happen.

And he is definitely a major bird flu fanatic.  Cabin in the hills, huge stockpiles of food, water, ammo, etc.  Promises from his adult children to be ready to bug out at a moments notice.  Always have ready cash.  etc. etc.

Her take was that her father is a very serious, stable guy, and his concern was definitly way out of the character, in the sense that he is a bright, intellegent, level headed guy not given into doomerism flights of fantasy.  And that he is/was highly concerned about a possible pandemic.

Anyway, it's always nice to know that my concerns are still being validated by others too.

See ya!

thanks and we miss
your common sense posts!

When I was prepping for my presentation at work, I was shopping at Kroger and saw a manager in thea aisle.  Stopped and talked a moment and said IF work okayed it, would Kroger provide some items for the display, etc.  She never said "what PF?" - she knew.  And said yes.  (Work said no, so I just used my stuff).  She mentioned that they had supplies in back that were rotated regularly.  Kroger gets it.

Yes, it is nice to know that others
are concerned, and concerned enough to take some personal action.

Good to see you back!

United we stand: Divided we fall

Welcome back, glad someone gets it. 1 down, 13,000 more to go :o) n/t

RE: another interesting conversation
My husband came home from work a few weeks ago and said he met someone as nutty as I was about bird flu.  Seems he sat next to a doctor who was very concerned about the possibility of a  pandemic.  I guess there are others out there who get it.

Pablo rumors are fine as long it doesn't lead to Soledad
Sole Father, Soledad would be the first instinctual move, but how deeper Gabriel made it... 100 yrs of solitude

Well for the historical records, there are so many rumors...

The one we have in front of our face is the next war.

Pablo, you are aware of it, how will it be use ??

Depression, food inflation. pandemic hanging around, H5N2 finally recognised for what it is for....

I feel some big mistake for brainwashed Minds.

I remember die 3rd Reich motto, anti-semitism will grab the critical mass,
Remisnescence... Anti-islamism will grab the critical mass...

Shiites are not sunnites, for the ones who knows Persian.

Bad, bad, bad,  surprises, many surprises, huges surprises.

Pablo, speak your mind out, become the lamb at the altar, stop teasing us.

I fail to understand . . .
what any of what you said really means.

Especially "H5N2 finally recognised for what it is for.... "

Exactly what are you saying H5N2 is for?

Hi Snowy!
Hi Snowy Owl!

Long time no, talk to, yeah?.

My ideation of Snowy is someone who is brilliant, but misunderstood.  Deeply religious, yet not christian.

Rumors are the whisperings of the cold north wind.  Sometimes they bring the snow. Most times they bring the cold.

How do the peoples say?  What is the story the first nations sing tomorrow?

For what it's worth, I have no new data.  My official sources are mum.

tamiflu in Indonesia
This is third hand from a scientist friend who attended a recent conference where Indonesian researchers reported that those H5N1 patients who were not treated with tamiflu had 100% mortality.

I don't have more details than that, sorry.

All 'safety concerns' are hypothetical.  If not, they'd be called side effects...

Good news and bad news perhaps?
Did they query about what the survival rate was WITH tamiflu?

Just rolling along, making waves and causing trouble...

[ Parent ]
sorry, that really is ALL I got ;-( n/t

All 'safety concerns' are hypothetical.  If not, they'd be called side effects...

[ Parent ]
definitely bad news
cos in a pandemic the vast majority of people on this planet will NOT have any tamiflu.

Think about it..

All 'safety concerns' are hypothetical.  If not, they'd be called side effects...

[ Parent ]
which is why we need alternative treatments such as statins n/t

All 'safety concerns' are hypothetical.  If not, they'd be called side effects...

[ Parent ]
Really bad news if H5N1 ever becomes Tamiflu resistant

Wow, I never thought Tamiflu was that important.

It begs the question - if they did not have tamiflu, what other medical measures where missing?

[ Parent ]
Kobie, from what I gather, they
use traditional and native herbs to treat illness. Not unlike anywhere else in the world. Seeing as the majority of the people cannot afford to go to the hospital, they rely on medicinal herbs. Sometimes, they will feed herbs to their chickens, as I've found out in an article I translated awhile back.

United we stand: Divided we fall

[ Parent ]
Herbs, thank you. n/t

[ Parent ]
Kobie, I'm shocked - my impression for a long while now is that the only patients in Indo who have survived have been those who were started on Tamiflu early enough in the course of their illness.

Tamiflu, until/unless resistance to it develops in the virus, seems to be the best if not only hope for survival for those infected with H5N1.  That's pretty freakin' important.

[ Parent ]
yeah, that's why I posted it n/t

All 'safety concerns' are hypothetical.  If not, they'd be called side effects...

[ Parent ]
Important shock

Hi. I was suprised too for I felt Tamiflu was one of many interventions working together.

There may be 329,999,999 other Americans who need to know this :o)

Tamiflu is more of the lynchpin holding so many treatments together? From what I read it seems many people waite to seek medical help. It is not like Tamiflu was given on day+1. (see April 2nd case http://www.who.int/csr/don/200...

Now the April 8th case was hospitalized the next day but as far as I can tell we still base the report on when the patient says they developed symptoms.

Elderberry and H5N1 : A STUDY 2006
Laboratory Tests Show Sambucol® Neutralises Common and Avian Flu Virus H5N1

New research, carried out by Retroscreen Virology has indicated that Sambucol®, a patented formula, may fight the virulent Avian Flu virus. Results have been presented yesterday, Wednesday, in a press conference held in the Royal Society of Medicine, London. Speakers included Prof. Hannoun, Emeritus Professor at the Pasteur Institute and Dr. Mumcuoglu, developer of Sambucol®.

(PRWEB) January 21, 2006 -- Laboratory trials held in a leading research institute, Retroscreen Virology Ltd, associated with the University of London found Sambucol® to be at least 99% effective against the Avian Flu virus H5N1. Sambucol® was effective at
significantly neutralising the infectivity of the virus in cell cultures. These results will also be presented during the International Conference on Bird Flu: "The First Pandemic of the 21st Century. A Central Role for Antivirals", to be held at St. Bartholomew's Hospital on January 19th-20th 2006.

Dr. Madeleine Mumcuoglu, is looking into further investigations into the activity of Sambucol® against Avian Flu on a wider scale.

In an earlier study (1995) Sambucol® was found to be effective against a wide range of influenza strains. Laboratory studies conducted at the Hebrew University - Hadassah Medical School, Jerusalem demonstrated the activity
of Sambucol® against human, swine, and avian influenza strains. Sambucol®'s efficacy was also demonstrated in two double blind, placebo controlled clinical studies. Sambucol® was shown to cut the duration and
severity of the common flu by up to half.

Notes to editors;
Sambucol® is based on an active substance isolated from the black elderberry.
Manufactured by Razei Bar Industries Israel, Sambucol® is available in 17 countries and in the UK is sold in Tesco, leading chemists, independent health food stores and wholesalers from £8.49.

Elderberry - broad spectrum - great find

Great find. Broad spectrum. I guess you would have to take Sambucol® for the duration but it is something.

I'm amazed that Tamiflu orders are down world wide as countries stop or slow their stockpilling. (source is story April 17th, 2008, Bloomberg )

Does its usefulness depend on your age?
If influenza most savagely attacks the young, with their active immune systems, maybe they shouldn't take elderberry to rev it up some more.  Could be useful for other age groups, just not teens to 35 or 40's?

...The controversy swirls around Elderberry's increase of cytokines as part of its effectiveness in treating influenza, this entry deals with the prophylactic usage of Elderberry extract, and although the increase in cytokines is still an issue should infection occur, it is not as great an issue, in my layman's estimation, and therefor the benefits, again in my estimation, outweigh the (potential) risks....

The cytokine storm issue is a main concern for H5N1 and people have discussed elderberry and age quite a bit. It anyone wants some references, I can look them up.   I use elderberry tincture as a preventative and make my own from the berries, taking a couple teaspoons a day.

For Pablo
Hi Pablo,

Here is what is going on in the First Nations Word.

We have the priviledge to have a First Nations Room at flutrackers.

Kobie, First Nations room at FT is public and you have ancestral uses of wild plants for diseases ther.

OK here's for you Pablo

Equipoise in shaking Tent

Carriers of Perfumes and dusts of Nature and Civilizations

In 2008 at the Beginning of the Austral Fall and the Boreal Spring,
When the atmosphere became ominous

In the last five centuries, here on the Americas, Perfumes of Nature have steadily fade while dusts of Civilization became omnipresent and invasive.

From Deep South, to Way Up North, from the Rising Sun Coast to the Sunset Coast, Now is the Time to ''getting the job done together''.

Many of us instinctively recognised this ominous atmosphere. It has assaulted First Communities in such a rude Way. Yes, were thrown backward by the blast.

The effects of this has shattered our History, our Cultures, our Memories, our Minds, our Souls and our Genes.

Few centuries later, First Nations have not yet found their Equipoise State of Being.

When dusts of Civilization strikes People, the Spirit becomes shaky, thorned and loose its 'Stalking' capacities and the World has we know it is radically change. In such a shaking World, it becomes very difficult for People to have Lasting Visions.

It then becomes very difficult to walk in the Trails, many fall back into a reserve mode, some in apathy, others in suicidal mode.

The Smell Sense communicate danger to the Inner Spirit prior to Sound or Sight.

The odors of diseases, wars, and of the crunch of Permanence, have increase so much in the last few years and are so intense and dense that it is a new propulsion, reawaking long time forgotten Memories.

There is no doubt, the Evocations are in the sequence, just like few centuries ago.

Here is the reminiscence of the sequence of events that is now unfolding.

First, numerous infectious diseases are again on the Great Turtle and are infiltrating our Villages, our Communities, and we MUST do something, NOW, about it, so that we can reduce 'suffering' and deaths.

Second, fear WhirlWinds is hyjacking whole Villages.

Third, war will suddenly happens.

Fourth, we will be chase, for what we have and what we are.

Fifth, we will loose Lands, People and Freedom.

Sixth, we will experience the shaking of our History, our Cultures, our Memories, our Minds, our Souls and our Genes.

Seventh, our Spirit will become prisoners of the Environment.

This is the sequence of the Vision.

This Sight, has been in a reserve mode because of Shamans Memorial Reflex,, there was a time when the mere evocation of it, lead Communities to apathy and tragedy.

I believe that the written tradition is bringing us; 'Above and Beyond' the 'Oral Tradition, and that will reduce the Time of the bad Harvest and its wounds.

Some First Communities concepts & notions

Innus - means, ''The ones that occupy a territory for some generations''

First Communities - prior to the arrival of a New Community in the Community.

Permanence - means a Stable World for Generations.

Unexplained mass bird deaths in Florida Keys
Dozens of doves are dying, literally falling out of the trees in Key West, the upper keys, and Marathon, FL.

If it was just 1 location, then a common source could be blamed (i.e. ducks in Colorado over the winter), but these doves aren't migrating birds and the disease they have seems to be spreading outward from the Keys.

The story has been active in Florida news since Friday, but I haven't heard anything beyond local yet.  The birds are being tested, but nobody knows what is killing them yet.  And it is still killing them too.

Still waiting for test results...
"A necropsy on 1 of the carcasses is planned. Results are expected within days."

This was reported on June 30.  I could find no updates/follow-ups so far through a Google News search.

Requisite China Olympics Bird Flu Rumor
An observation by a poster over at CurEvents...

Hello, this is my first post in ages. In the interest of full disclosure, I have been away from curevents and bird flumania only because I got more scared of things like global economic collapse, weather wars, New World Order, supersoldiers, etc etc. I am admittedly hypervigilant. My best guess is that some of us have an apocalyptic mindset, but that, also, we are the stopped clocks who will be right eventually.
Back on topic. I talked to my sister today. She is far more conservative than I am. She is very intelligent and rarely alarmist.I can hardly believe we are related. But she told me a fascinating story. Her neighbor in a wealthy suburb has a husband whom my sister suspects is CIA. He has been on television as a "terrorism expert" many times, and claims to hold a professorship at a local college, ( different part of the country from me).
Every other week, her neighbor tells my sister that her husband is in Kosovo.Yesterday, the neighbor said that her husband called her "from Kosovo" all freaked out about bird flu spreading from the Chinese Olympics. My sister was hip to the fact that China hides info, etc. And even though she usually ignores my jeremiads, she informed me that she plans to dig out her bird flu preps of years ago and check the Sambucol, etc. expiration dates.
So my alarm bells went off. Is this guy really in "Kosovo, China?" Why is a guy who is probably CIA, but allegedly in Kosovo, suddenly so freaked about bird flu in the Chinese Olympics? He told his wife to start serious prepping right away. Sounds weird. I was sitting around celebrating July 4th by worrying about Israel doing a false flag against Iran, or the global elitists pulling the plug for good on the U.S. economy. H5N1 was off my radar.
Now, between the creepy murder of the French scientists in London, one of whom was working on H5N1, and this possibly inside info, I am, once again, a flubie. Which disproves evolution or something. But what if he knows something because it is common knowledge in the CIA , where and when?
So I am experiencing cognitive dissonance, which I don't handle so well. Unlike most of the populace, I am premedicated.(Not yet on Prozac) I was ready for a different endtimes scenario. Does this sound weird to anyone else? The whole Kosovo vs. Chinese Olympics vs. H5N1 story? I'm not making this up.

Just rolling along, making waves and causing trouble...

I'm not sure it was H5N1 one of the students was working on.
...They had won internships to take part in a three-month research project into chains of protein within DNA at London's Imperial College....

Police on Saturday arrested a man in connection with the knife murder of two French students in London.

The 21-year-old man was arrested in the early hours on a street in southeast London as part of an investigation into the killing of Laurent Bonomo and Gabriel Ferez, London police said in a statement...

..Police said a black Packard Bell laptop computer was taken in a burglary a week before the murders, while two Sony handheld games consoles were stolen last Sunday when Bonomo and Ferez were murdered...

pablo escabar, thanks for the "Kosovo" story.  :-O  While it's good to hear about people prepping, knowing how suddenly she decided.....gives me an Uh, oh! feeling.

E-mail from ex-pat in Qingdao
I'm posting this in the Rumors diary because it is hearsay, not a news report.  I found the name of an ex-pat in Qingdao through a news report and tracked down an e-mail address.  I asked the person whether he/she had any information about a disease outbreak.  (I have not had any prior contact with this person.)

Here is the answer:

"As far as I'm aware, the rumors regarding an outbreak of meningitis in Qingdao have been shown to be without foundation, and the locals that I have spoken to are aware of them, and are not concerned about such an outbreak. Some of the numbers that I've read (such as 160,000 affected) I can only assume have been pulled out of thin air, as I haven't spoken to anyone at all who has been affected, and a large proportion of the local population (including myself, who helped with the clean-up effort) have come into contact with the algae at some point."

The e-mail went on to recommend the Shandong news agency (www.china-sd.com) or the Xinhua news agency (news.xinhuanet.com) as news sources for more information on the denials of any outbreak.  I come away with two possibilities: either the report of the outbreak was greatly exaggerated (unfortunately, it's very hard to prove a negative) or the news blockade is superbly effective.

Hmmm. Seems we're
right back at square one.

Could there be a possibility that this person is afraid to say anything AlohaOR? I think that maybe it should be factored in. I'm just grasping at air here, but the fact that this person didn't give a confirmation one way or the other with facts to back it up makes me wonder.

Anyhow, that is certainy excellant that you were able to do that and succeed. Thanks and hope they will stay in contact.

ex-pat emails
that is one thing that is hard to control.  Unless the person is voluntarily in collusion, but generally the expat community grapevine is a good source for such info, cos people do want to protect/inform their own friends and families.   There must be some community blogs, for China expats.  Possibly connected to sites that give advice to those being relocated to China.

All 'safety concerns' are hypothetical.  If not, they'd be called side effects...

would know a lot about censorships, rumors, what to believe and what not.  They have to be constantly tapped into everything that's going on, in order to get the best advantage in their business dealings.  Who's up, who's down, how the wind is blowing etc.  FWIW

All 'safety concerns' are hypothetical.  If not, they'd be called side effects...

[ Parent ]
Very interesting and inventive solution to our confusion
It gives some details that indicate the person was aware that the algae was a potential source of illness and not just an airborne virus scare.

A person who was scared to report might just have said they knew nothing about it. Equally a well informed PR person would have a back story.

But who could have known you'd be about to email a stranger at random?

Mmm, a lot to think about, thanks.

[ Parent ]
yeah I've been thinking
I bet you can ask a lot of stuff with online forums.  A lot of expats have forums where they share information from where to find a school to how to extend your visa and stuff, which is where new arrivals or those who expect to relocate there would post questions or read people's discussions.  I'm sure expats living in China are a lot more tapped into the risk of avian flu than their compatriots at home, especially if they have received such kinds of info from their own consulates.  Only problem is many are probabaly right now on vacation, back home somewhere other than in China, and the kids are not in school.  Still I think is an area worth checking, if anybody has time.  Just my suggestion.

All 'safety concerns' are hypothetical.  If not, they'd be called side effects...

If I may ask, what is

Ex-pat (expatriate) is someone living outside of his/her own (native) country.
I ran across this paper a while ago:

Expatriate Stories: A Vehicle of Professional Development Abroad?

Two-thirds of European organisations are using informal briefings for expatriates. Why should expatriates place a heavy premium on such input, even when given in the stories of complete strangers? This article uses narrative method to examine expatriate experience, considering how stories enable expatriate understanding of novel environments...

[ Parent ]
sorry, should explain
Jane's got the answer.  It's someone living abroad.  But generally it is used in the foreign country that the person is living in, than in their home country.  eg one might say Hong Kong has a large expat community.

These are usually company employees, more commonly executive level, but these days you also have all sorts of professional or entrepreneurial types.  They are posted in a foreign city for a few years.  Often they bring their families, and the children go to international schools, although in a lot of cities, the availability of school places can be a barrier for bringing families.

Newly arrived families tend to rely on 'old hands' ;-) to orient themselves, everything from where to get your groceries, where to learn some local language to get by, where are the night-spots to hang out with your friends.  Just about anything really.  So the 'expat community' is a real community, especially in major cities in Asia, China and Indonesia included.

Which is why I thought this may be a good place to tap for info.  Gently and respectfully, of course.

Olympic visitors
FWIW, I've also put a bug in the ear of 3 folks who are going to the Olympics.  All three are going to Beijing, not Qingdao.  One is an athlete (an alternate for a team, probably will be living with the team), one is the parent of another Olympian, and the third is a visitor interested in a different sport.  If there is scuttlebutt about a disease outbreak within their earshot, I expect that we'll hear about it.

Tell the truth

Found this in a blog
Comment:  Blog concerning a Singapore to Sydney flight.  Maybe business as usual for flights these days when someone becomes ill while flying, but thought it worth posting.

Relieved we landed and everyone immediately jumped to their feet and switched on their phones (even though they're not supposed to). Then we waited and waited and waited. There was an announcement about a sick passenger and how the crew were waiting for quarantine officials to arrive. You could hear the words 'bird' and 'flu' being whispered up and down the plane. Then we were allowed off with a very nice Singapore Airlines lady carrying one of our many bags, and down to immigration. By this stage Jack obviously knew the drill because he stood in his pram so the immigration lady could see him.
At the baggage carousels something strange was going on. Customs officials were talking to every person asking if they had anything to declare. Having been to a rural area and being honest folk we said yes. Unfortunately there was also a plane load of Czech tourist with suitcases full of cheese (I'm not making this up) also queueing with us.

hey - check this out...

Bird Flu

I use that title only half-jokingly. I'm not sure what bug it was that laid me so low this week, but I certainly lost the fight. Damn, I've never been knocked out so quickly, and fully by a foreign bug as the one that arrived Sunday morning and only now seems to be moderately taking its leave of me. So, that should explain my lack of presence around. I hope to blog some in the days ahead but I'm not in a place to make any promises.

I lived in San Antonio most of my life, not counting the three muggy years in Houston while studying at the University of Houston. Oh yeah, and there was that one year I was an English teacher in Seoul, South Korea. Now there is a story. But now, I managed to escape, after almost 37 years, and I live in Singapore. It's a long story; read the blog where you can get the full scoop.

Lots of flu in Singapore & Malaysia
Type the words "sick with the flu" in the google blog search then click it for most recent date.  Lots of bloggers from Australia, Singapore and Malaysia reporting being sick, as well as family and friends.  Most of them are students bemoaning have to take exams or write reports while sick.  It may all be normal amount of traffic for this time of year during flu season, but I don't know.

Rumor - The Pentagon's alarming project: Avian Flu Biowar Vaccine
IMHO this is bad rice from an official and well made website that showed up in Google News as an example of bad news to come. End of opinion

USA - The Pentagon's alarming project: Avian Flu Biowar Vaccine

Story more bull than news IMO, but know what is being said
There is alarming evidence accumulated by serious scientific sources that the US Government is about to or already has 'weaponized' Avian Flu. If the reports are accurate, this could unleash a new pandemic on the planet that could be more devastating than the 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic which killed an estimated 30 million people worldwide before it eventually died out. Pentagon and NIH experiments with remains in frozen state of the 1918 virus are the height of scientific folly. Is the United States about to unleash a new racially selective pandemic through the process of mandatory vaccination with an alleged vaccine "against" Avian Flu?

There is reason to believe that sections of the international pharmaceutical industry cartel are acting in concert with the US Government to develop a genetically modified H5N1 virus substance that could unleash a man-made pandemic, perhaps more deadly than the 1918 'Spanish Influenza' pandemic claiming up to 30 million lives.1

Rima E. Laibow, MD, head of the Natural Solutions Foundation, a citizen watchdog group monitoring the pharmaceutical industry states, "Our best intelligence estimate is that pandemic Avian Flu has already been created through genetic engineering in the United States, fusing the deadly genome of the 1918 Pandemic, misnamed the 'Spanish Flu', with the DNA of the innocuous H5N1 virus in a growth medium of human kidney cells, according to the National Institutes of Health and the vaccine's manufacturer. Some virologists believe that this would insure that the man-made mutant virus recognizes human cells and knows how to invade them." 2

If true, as Laibow points out, "A basic virological fact that the public has not been told is that it is impossible to make a vaccine against a virus that does not yet exist. Public relations efforts to the contrary, IF a vaccine is being made against the Avian Flu virus in its pandemic form, that means that the pandemic virus must already exist, period, end of discussion."3

The start of the flu season in the northern hemisphere is upon us and I'm gearing up for some radical rumors!

Just Checking In
I've been quite busy this past year with my latest business acquisition...

So I check in at least once every few days, and so far, it seems, so good, on the pandemic flu front.

I'm glad you guys are here.  I talk about it with the strangers on a plane, and it is definitely falling off the radar with with most, ascertaining the reputation of another cry wolf from TPTB.

I hit many sites daily, smelling for rumors, and even the rumor mill has fallen significantly.

Anyway, I saw that Frenchiegirl had a big storm in Sept.  Glad she made it out OK.

Just rolling along, making waves and causing trouble...
