H1N1(Swine Flu): WHO Ukraine Update #2; Family Pet Cat Infected with H1N1

WHO has long warned that developing nations would have the most difficult time in this pandemic...mild as it might be...Developing nations don't have the health care infrastructure to meet possible demands for basic and advanced care in the sheer numbers that are likely to ensue.  I am afraid the Ukraine is a good example of that fear manifested. AND a 13-year-old indoor cat in Iowa was brought to the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center at Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine tested positive for the H1N1 virus.

Vet reports H1N1 in Park City cat

PARK CITY -- What could be only the second case of the swine flu in a cat has been discovered in Park City.

The Park Record reports a 14-year-old domestic shorthaired cat was brought to Park City Animal Clinic Nov. 6 with flu-like symptoms.

Because the cat's owner had recently recovered from the swine flu, veterinarians tested the cat. Tests confirmed it has H1N1. Dr. Carl Prior, a veterinarian at the clinic, also consulted with doctors in Iowa who had treated a cat with swine flu.

The Utah and Iowa cases are the only two reported incidents in the country of cats having H1N1. The American Veterinary Medical Association reports four ferrets in Oregon got the virus.

The cat in Park City has nearly recovered. Prior says it likely would have died without treatment.
