China: Xinjiang confirms 22 A/H1N1 cases

BEIJING, March 12 (Xinhua) -- A total of 22 A/H1N1 cases have been reported in Hotan of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region as of Sunday and efforts have been made to control the spread, local officials said Monday.

"There won't be a major outbreak of the epidemic in Xinjiang," Nur Bekri, chairman of the region, told Xinhua on the sidelines of the ongoing parliamentary session.

The situation has been under control and no new cases reported as of 4 p.m. Monday, said Eti Imin, head of Hotan government, who is also attending the session in Beijing.  

Xinjiang schools resume morning checkup as A/H1N1 cases reported

URUMQI, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Schools in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have resumed morning checkup for students and teachers after reports of at least two A/H1N1 cases in region's Hotan prefecture, local health authorities said Sunday.

According to the urgent circular jointly released on Friday by the region's education and health departments, all high schools, primary schools and kindergartens should perform morning inquiry and examination.

People carrying flu symptoms of fever, cough and sore throat will be reported to health department for further check to prevent spread of A/H1N1 flu virus.

The circular said any class with three confirmed A/H1N1 cases should be suspended for 15 days, and a school would be suspended for 15 days in case of seven cases being confirmed.


Since March, at least two A/H1N1 cases have been confirmed in the Hotan prefecture, according to the circular, and it did not disclose the detail about the cases.

Bengkulu Back Bird Flu Alert

Bengkulu, Indonesia:  Bengkulu City Residents told InfoPublik they are restless now because of the bird flu virus outbreak.  This growing unrest occurred after Riva Julianingsih, a two-year-old boy, was rushed to the Hospital M Yunus (RSMY) on Friday (9/3), because his condition was critical.   Riva Julianingsih Jalan Bandar Raya, a resident of RT 8 RW 4 Swamp Prosperous Village was a stated bird flu suspect. The second child of couple Herlinda (38) and Muksin (41) was allegedly suffering from the deadly disease, after the clinic was no longer able to handle the victim.

When he was referred to the RSMY, a team of paramedics immediately gave special treatment to the bird flu suspect boy.  They wore special masks.  Not only that, the victim was also isolated from other public patients.

Told by the victim's mother, Herlinda, beginning around 17:30 pm on Friday (9/3), the victim suffered a high heat and during the day, the heat did not go down, with cough and flu.  Looking at his condition, she immediately took her daughter (son?) to a neighborhood health center.  Upon examination at the center, it was unknown if the victim was strongly suspected of bird flu disease who needed special care, and was referred to the RSMY Bengkulu.

"According to the description of the health center, my child should have been referred to hospital M Yunus Bengkulu," Dewi said yesterday.

He also said the family was busy day-to-day raising chickens.   Said Dewi, a lot of his pet chickens within the last 3 days died suddenly.  Every day there were two or three chickens died suddenly.  The carcasses of dead chickens were thrown away, without being buried or burned, he said.

"The distance between the chicken coops with our house, it is very close to gold.   But I do not know if I was attacked by a chicken bird flu virus as seen on television, " he said.

Due to fear of all chickens that died suddenly, they were immediately sold at a low price.  Unfortunately, the incidence of chickens that died suddenly was not directly related to a personnel report.  Luckily the hospital reported to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Health of Bengkulu Province.  

"We are doing the handling of patients.  As for the handling of poultry infected with bird flu and their location, we have coordinated with the Animal and Public Health," said M Yunus Bengkulu Hospital Director, Dr. Yusdi Zahrias.

Dr Yusdi Zahrias also determined to make the treatment of victims who allegedly contracted the bird flu.  The findings of the bird flu suspect patient has been submitted to Strathmore University.

S.Korea reports first suspected avian influenza case
SEOUL: A suspected case of avian influenza was reported for the first time in South Korea in nearly 10 months with test results of a more detailed examination due later in the day, the government said today.

A suspected case was filed yesterday by a poultry farm in South Chungcheong Province where about 100 out of some 450 chickens are showing symptoms of avian influenza, South Korea's Yonhap news agency quoted an official with the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, as saying.

About 40 chickens at the farm have already died with an initial test on 10 chickens with symptoms producing positive results.


Bhutan: More HPAI Outbreaks in Chhukha District
Bhutan has reported another outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Chhukha district in backyard scavenging poultry.

Follow-up report No. 5 was sent to the World Organisation for Animal Health on Friday, 9 March. The new outbreak has occurred in a backyard scavenging poultry unit with the death of one adult local poultry. The dead poultry tested positive to PCR.

A total of 1050 birds were found susceptible, out of which one case was identified. 131 birds were destroyed.

The source of the outbreak remains inconclusive.


Israel: HPAI Outbreaks in Hadarom
The Israeli veterinary authorities have reported two new outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Hadarom.

The World Organisation for Animal Health received an immediate notification on Friday, 9 March. The outbreaks were initially observed on 7 March and confirmed on 8 March. 12-week-old and 8-week-old turkeys constitute the affected population.

In the case of 12-week-old broilers, in one of the two pens there were 19,000 turkeys with very high morbidity and more than 50 per cent mortality.


India: Jaipur Swine flu: More swab samples sent to labs for test
JAIPUR: The scare of swine flu intensified on Sunday as more swab samples of patients were sent to laboratories for the H1N1 influenza test. Telephones at the control rooms of chief medical health officers Jaipur I and Jaipur II remained busy throughout the day as people sought information about the disease and its symptoms.


India : Swine flu resurfaces, 4 cases in 10 days
Pune, Tue Mar 13 2012, 06:00 hrs

After a gap of three months, the city has witnessed four cases of swine flu in 10 days.

Of the four patients, one is a pregnant woman and another is a six-year-old child. According to district health authorities, the situation is under control and these are sporadic cases.

District civil surgeon Dr Vinayak More said two are on ventilator support while the remaining have recovered. The condition of the 51-year-old autorickshaw driver, who is on ventilator support, continues to be critical at Bharati Hospital.

According to Sassoon General Hospital authorities, the seven-month pregnant woman (30) was admitted barely for 3-4 hours on March 4 and before the throat swab could be sent for testing, she got discharged against medical advice and went to Aditya Birla Hospital.

District health authorities said she had tested positive and had to undergo a premature delivery. She is on ventilator support.


The Case Of Bird Flu Was Reported To WHO [MV, 24F in Bengkulu]

Bengkulu: RSUD M. Yunus Bengkulu reported the case of bird flu in the Bengkulu Province to the Organisation of the Health of the World (WHO). This was related several patients suspect (was suspected) infected the virus H5N1 that struck Bengkulu several last days. The RSUD side also sent 86 specimens after the death of one of the bird flu patients some time before.

"During the meeting with the Health Minister (Menkes) RI some time before, we also enclosed the related report on the case of bird flu that struck Bengkulu to WHO," said RSUD M Yunus Director, Dr. H. Yusdi Zahrias Tazar to RB.

Yusdi also stressed RSUD M. Yunus will not close itself from the media related the indication of the patient that suspect bird flu. Because, his side received the appeal from the Director General P2ML (Immediate Eradication of Infectious Diseases) related information concerning bird flu. He ask for community might not worry with the indication of the spreading of the virus that spread through this poultry.

"We have sent 72 specimens from the environment around the territory that the residence 4 patients suspect beforehand. Whereas 14 other specimens came from sample the RUSD employees' blood that it was suspected often interacted with casualties MV that died some time before. God willing results will be known this Sunday," continued Yusdi.

The patient improved
One of the patients suspect, RJ (2), the resident Bandar Raya Street, Pematang Gubernur Village came home and underwent treated outpatient since Saturday afternoon (10/3). The Deputy Director (Wadir) the Medical Treatment and Nursing Field RSMY, Dr Lista Cerlyviera, MM permitted RJ to have been permitted to come home. In view of the fact that results of the laboratory test from this patient were negative. However, despite just was limited received the oral report, Lista stressed the official report will immediately be accepted in the near future.

"If not having the obstacle to his official results will be sent through fax tomorrow (today, red). Whereas results specimen for the patient YO and the patient GDS the possibility will also be sent by results tomorrow (today, red). But whether only oral or direct reports the official report, we also did not yet know," revealed Lista.
