India: 130 infected in TN as tamiflu relief arrives (Tamil Nadu)
CHENNAI: The number of people who have been affected by the (A)H1N1 virus has risen to 130 across Tamil Nadu.

On Friday, four more people tested positive. This included three from Chennai - from Pallikaranai, Royapettah and Tondiarpet. The fourth patient was a 30-year-old woman from Tiruchy. Sources in the health department informed that 5 lakh Tamiflu tablets were sent by the Centre and have been received here. The nasal drops vaccine is expected to arrive soon. (Note: 5 lakh is 500,000. India only counts laboratory confirmed flu cases so the true number of infections is unknown.)

Bangladesh: Dhaka bans chicken sale on Mondays
(Latest Update: Saturday 5/5/2012 12:30 AM Doha Time) Bangladesh has banned sale of chicken on Mondays to prevent an outbreak of bird flu again in the country, a senior official of the health ministry said yesterday.
Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) South already instructed the kitchen market management committee to declare Mondays chicken-free to prevent bird flu which already affected several poultry traders in Dhaka city market as well as 45 students of Kurigram Nursing Institute.
(Snip) director of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (Snip), said: "It will help to prevent rapid spreading of bird flu, which came back to Bangladesh as well as to some other parts of the world."
IEDCR recently confirmed the presence of the virus, commonly known as bird flu in the capital's different kitchen markets after three workers were reported positive with H5N1.

DCC also instructed the police (Snip) to restrict the vehicles carrying poultry in Dhaka after Sunday at mid night (Snip) They also instructed the poultry traders and market management committee to clean the poultry markets to check the virus transmission. http://www.gulf-times.com/site...

(Note: IMO, this is a very disturbing report if it is correct. I knew about the 3 market workers testing positive for H5N1 but the previous reports on the 45 nursing students stated they were infected with H1N1 swine flu.)

India: H1N1 case detected, health authorities strengthen surveillance
One case of Influenza A H1N1 was reported on Friday by the Health authorities. So far this year, two cases have been confirmed. However, the district Health authorities believe that people need to be alerted about the fever, body pain, running nose, scratchy throat, cold and cough that are the main symptoms of the disease.

Some people show some other symptoms like diarrhoea as well, but these symptoms should not be left untreated, said R. Sudhakaran, the district medical officer. If the initial treatment is not effective, one has to see a doctor, and medicines for treating H1N1 infections are available in all government hospitals and dispensaries, he said.
