US: Dozens report flu-like symptoms in Collier County (Florida)
NAPLES- The flu usually peaks in January or February and most people forget about it by March, but this year it's keeping clinics, schools and retirement communities busy.

ER QuickCare treated nearly a half a dozen patients in the last week for the flu. It might not seem like a lot, but it is for this time a year.

Dr. Rosenfield says his patients have complained about cough, congestion and sore throats. "Nothing consistent as far as which type of flu we are seeing, but it's lasting longer than it has before," said Dr. Rosenfield.

(Snip) Vi at Bentley Village in Naples reported 32 cases of residents and staff members complaining about flu-like symptoms. "It was confirmed some of them have influenza or the flu. At that point, we don't test everyone. Once you know you have the illness in the facility, you just treat everyone with the same precaution," (Snip) The Health Department has made recommendations to keep the number from growing.

The Health Department says it should take about 2 weeks before those at the retirement community start to feel better.

The Collier County School District also tells us they have had an increase in the number of students in the last month complaining about flu-like symptoms. http://www.fox4now.com/news/lo...

Cook Islands school reopens after flu outbreak
A high incidence of the influenza virus in the Cook Islands' remote island of Pukapuka has led to a brief closure of its only school. The Ministry of Education closed Niua School on Thursday last week, to quarantine sick students to inhibit further spread of the flu. The school reopened on Tuesday morning.

(Snip) the high incidence of the virus has come earlier than usual and 64 out of 159 students from the school visited the hospital with flu symptoms last week.

"I guess part of it is the fact that it is one school so children from the whole island are coming to one place. It wouldn't take very much to move from one village to another when children can take it home with them." (Snip) http://www.rnzi.com/pages/news...
