Wiki Work Projects
Will's diary on Proposed Process to populate Flu Wiki is still a discussion point. Before organizing it further (that's assuming folks want to be organized), we still have projects to complete. The wiki is never done.
Recent discussion areas include schools, social services/adoption and mortuary issues. Any volunteers to organize those areas should place them on the wiki in the Pandemic Preparedness -> Community Preparedness section. In the meantime, this is your community open thread. What's on your mind?

There'll always be a Community Sandbox post on the front page for you to ask and answer questions, or to just chat.
Remember to review the wiki now and again; we'll be featuring topics to make sure we are up to date. The current focus is the Personal Stockpiling of Tamiflu (Oseltamivir) page. Dr Woodson has updated his monograph as of 22 Nov, 2006, and kindly made it available on the wiki. The tamiflu discussion is here. The front page poll will finish tomorrow afternoon today. Now's your chance to vote. The results are here.
The Lookout Posts are being modified so that comments show up in the 'recent comments' box. This will take a few days.

Today's FW Forum tip.The two 'rescue' diaries that bgw in MT made, linking all the diaries in a linear one-line fashion, can now be found easily by looking in the Subjects box on the main page. There is a new Subject called diary list. Just click it to get the list.
'Subjects' are simply search keywords. Click any of them to find diaries lebelled with that keyword. News reports finds all the news reports, for example. Clicking 'all tags' in the Hot tags box gets you every keyword on the site.

Have been reading the old forum and am trying to learn to use the new.Not very computer literate! I hope to be able to use both forums...hope the old stays available. Been mostly a lurker and an avid prepper(about 85% done).Living in a rural mountain setting we have our own water source and generators for limited power. We can hold out for a long time if no serious mishaps befall us.Would love to hear from others in similiar circumstances.

We hope (American) Thanksgiving weekend finds you all well. The site is humming, and the flu world is noting us. Here are posts on H5N1 and Effect Measure about the new site (and a nice review of the Norsk Flu Wiki, too!).

This is a place for the community to chat. Can we help you with anything?

Got a question about the site, or a general one for the community about preps, flu or anything else? Do you know that the Irish geese in the top left will bring you Home if you click on them (they are on every page)?
Here's something on the use of tags:
Tags are simply keywords or phrases that are used to construct a search statement to find information. We manually add them to Diaries to help with searching. Open any Diary and tags will be listed at the bottom, before the comments section.
Here's an example – there was a Lookout Post Diary made by us to cover Southern Africa and Madagascar. Here are the tags we added (there are a lot of them!): News Reports, Lookout Posts, Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Madagascar. Let's say you don't remember where that Diary is, a week later.
If you look in the Hot Tags box to the left (on the main page) or use the search box (Choose Section... Diaries), you can throw in ANY of those tags and find the Diary.
If it's a really important tag, the mods will elevate it to a Subject (there's a separate Subject box of important keywords/tags). Clicking a subject will find every Diary that is tagged with that subject, such as videos, or science (try it!).
Someone coming to the site who knows nothing about our sorting conventions can almost instantly find Diaries about prepping, science, HTML, or whatever we chose as a subject. with a little more digging (Hot Tags box, all tags), they can look at an Index of all the Diaries on the site.
Now I can go to All Tags and find all the Indonesia Diaries with one click! And that's the story with tags.

This is intended for 'first timers' who want to try some bolding or colours (colors) in their postings. We will start simple and build from there ..

Still making color/colour adjustments (remember that HTML is American English - font colour as a command won't work), and working to port some of the series posts over here. Please feel free to bring any post you want (IOM, ATSHO, etc) over here and plop it in a Diary. If you put the bulk of the comments in extended text, you can format them. Very long Diaries may not show the last part of the comments... they can be placed as your first reply or comment when you run out of room and figure out how you like the formatting.
Looking at Old Yeller in the print mode (top right) and then cut-and-paste works if you don't wish to do formatting but just want to help with the move.
Finding Area preppers will be a new Diary here, link to Old Yeller page. Links can be copied and pasted without fancy HTML formatting.
What's on your mind? How are you liking the place? Getting used to it?

We now have approximately 100 beta testers, some who are active and many who are just 'checking us out'. ;-)
I encourage everyone to try out the site. Check the New? Start Here post in the About box, and see how it can be improved.
Also, click on All Tags in the Hot tag box and see how it functions as a Forum Index.
I've added Old Yeller links in the Contact box to the right.
Use this thread to comment and chat. It's our water cooler/staff room. I would envision chatting with specific people in the diaries and chatting with everyone here. Ah, and MaMa has a question about the news summaries and how you want them to look. Answer her here in this Diary/thread.How is the news summary? Should it be different- if so how? What other info should be provided? Links?
Please comment how you guys would like it to be, thanks!
