Someday I hope to settle on a format for these diaries. It has been hard to work with this software for the purpose of this diary. It is necessary that I be able to edit information, so that limits me to the main text or extended text areas of the diary. (These areas are the portion that only the author of the diary can access.) We are asked to keep the Main Text area of diaries as brief as possible. The Extended Text area will only hold a finite number of characters. If I make the extended area too long, it cuts off information at the end. Suffice it to say that I am juggling a lot of considerations here to make an optimal format. That is why these diaries keep changing in the way they are presented.
In this particular diary, name, age, gender, and residence will be noted in blockquotes. (That is if all these pieces of information are available in the articles. Gender is commonly left out since many articles do not indicate the gender of the suspected patient.)
I'm going to try to make a short note section at the end of each patient's entry. This note section will include the most pertinent information from the various articles in brief, excerpted form.
Articles and/or links concerning the suspect cases will be posted in the comments section, where everybody can post. These will be added on time available basis, if time becomes available. LOL I will use the name and/or residence of each suspect as a header for each article. I will try to group articles about the same suspect together by using replies under the first articles about the suspect. Indonesian newspaper articles vary in how much information they carry in their articles. There are many of the fields in my template for entry of data on suspect cases that will be blank, because that information just isn't covered in the available articles. In this particular diary, if the text in an entry for a suspect is entirely in red, that person died as a result of their illness. Many cases never have any follow-up article that tells us the outcome of the case. This has been particularly true since Supari mandated that positve cases would not be confirmed immediately anymore. In the opinion of many, if not most observers, the negative results of PCR are frequently the result of prior Tamiflu administration. FOR MORE INFORMATION ON EACH SUSPECT LOOK IN THE POSTS BELOW THE INTRODUCTION AND THE LIST OF NAMES AND DATA FIELDS ON EACH PATIENT. ALL POSTS ON THE SAME PATIENT WILL HOPEFULLY BE GROUPED TOGETHER AND BE TITLED WITH THAT PERSON'S NAME. All information in this diary was gathered and arranged in a spreadsheet by that GREAT newshound, dbg! She has done an outstanding job! I have merely arranged her information in a vertical format so it will fit in a diary without having to go back and forth. Part of the cases in this diary were also covered with additional information in these diaries: New Case Diary: BANDUNG...Dadan Hadiansyah, Chicken Butcher case Nov. 2008 (+)
New Case Diary: SEMARANG...DEWI SARTIKA (15) CASE...NOV 2008 (+)
New Case Diary: Makassar Susp. Clust.; Nov 11, 2008 to ?
New Case Diary: Lampung clus; Sutarjo (40), Joko (9), and Fadri Permata (11 m); Oct-Nov 08 (+)
The above diaries contain additional summary information, quotes, comments, articles and links to articles on suspects and confirmed positive patients in certain clusters.

This diary contains the articles on the Bali Suspected Bird Flu Cluster that occurred during September, 2008. The articles are posted in the order they appeared in the Indonesia diary on FluWiki. I have bolded and/or underlined portions that I feel are new significant information to facilitate a quick scan for information.

I will record articles on suspects and confirmed positive patients in this diary. I am grouping all the articles for each suspect together in the extended text portion of the diary, so that I can go back and edit and add to the data as needed. A short summary of the case will preceed the articles
I will post all the stories connected to a particular case or series of cases directly after some summary information.

I am giving the Air Batu suspected cluster case it's own diaries, because the articles and information available are so extensive. I have decided that the most useful way I can do this is to post all the Air Batu stories here in the order that they were posted on the wiki, and use bold and/or significant passages as they occur. This should enable a quick scan read, and yet the text of the stories will be preserved so it will be possible to read the whole article if necessary. I use the WYSIWG editor on my posts, since they take so much formatting. This editor is pretty cranky. It will not truncate (shorten) links, so many links I am splitting into two lines. You can use the links by copying and pasting and taking out the blank space between. AIR BATU CLUSTER: Part3 Note: long links may be broken into two lines. NAMES:
The following died: Misnan (54) died (July 20), Gunawan fortune (5) died (Aug 2), and Yosi Tigo Sijati (6) died (Aug 4), Armansyah still could not confirm whether or not they were attacked by bird flu. Most of the patients that were suspected A1 and were undergoing treatment in the hospital were in RSU Kisaran, each one had a name, Beautiful Purnama Sari (4), Ujang Suprianto (38), Supriati (23), Retno Ayu Pertiwi (5), Rama Agus Setiawan (2), Sudirah (36), Misniah (35), Rindi Meilani (8), Darsiyem (32), and Dewiyanti (5) . Two other suspect casualties were treated in RSUP H Adam Malik Medan, M. Sani Mufli (8 months) and Fadhilah Hanum (7). RESIDENCE: Village IV the Air Batu Village 39,Kecamatan Water of Batu,Kabupaten Asahan,Sumatera North (North Sumatra)
HOSPITALS: The majority of the suspects were in Asahan district's Kisaran hospital and the remaining two were sent to Adam Malik. RELATIONSHIPS: Slamet Riyadi (31) is the mother of MS. [Note: other sources say that Slamet or Selamet is only the mother of MS, the baby. Other articles say the two children are of the same family (could be cousins) or are neighbors.] The three people that died were members of one family. DATES OF ONSET: not reported OUTCOMES: Three died without testing: three family members, Misman (7), Igo (4) and Riski (6) died within a week. "The three casualties experienced the signs similar to bird flu, such as a high fever, accompanied by breathlessness and coughing. Ms Riski, who it was suspected also was infected with bird flu, was still being treated in the Kisaran Public Hospital. While the Igo family and several other residents fled to other villages, because they were frightened of becoming casualties. The casualty's family (the one who) died as a result of the assumption of bird flu in Shavings, North Sumatra, submitted (reported) the incident that struck their family. Officially the Asahan Regional Health Government denied that the three casualties died as a result of bird flu. However, the Shavings Health Service opened a Prevention Command Post." All the other patients recovered and returned home. Three new suspects have entered the hospital.

I will record cumulative new information on suspects and confirmed positive patients in this diary. I'm recording the information on each new case in the extended text portion of the diary, so that I can go back and edit and add to the data as needed. I am following a convention in this particular diary. When I find an article with new information, I will assign a letter to identify the article in the "Hospital and Case Data" section. This will be followed by the link to the article. The letter will be used in other sections to identify the article that the excerpted information was taken from. Links to stories that do not contain significant new information on the suspect/s will be recorded in the Additonal Links section.
